China's external financial assets increase rapidly

At the end of last year, China's external financial assets amounted to 2.2881 trillion U.S. dollars, that is an increase of almost 40 percent, according to "China International Investment Position at the end of 2007," recently released by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.

At the end of 2007, China's external financial assets of 2.2881 trillion U.S. dollars were 39 percent higher than at the end of the previous year. External financial liabilities were 1.2661 trillion U.S. dollars, an increase of 23 percent. Net external financial assets reached 1.022 trillion U.S. dollars, an increase of 67 percent.

In external financial assets, foreign direct investment reached 107.6 billion U.S. dollars; securities investment reached 239.5 billion U.S. dollars; other investments approached 406.1 billion U.S. dollars; and reserve assets reached 1.5349 trillion U.S. dollars, respectively accounting for 5%, 10%, 18% and 67% of external financial assets. In external financial liabilities, foreign direct investment in China reached 742.4 billion U.S. dollars, securities investment 142.6 billion U.S. dollars, and other investment 381 billion U.S. dollars, respectively accounting for 59%, 11% and 30% of external financial liabilities.
