The Wenchuan earthquake wreaked havoc on Chengdu's industrial enterprises and some 4,350 enterprises have suffered. The city's industry saw a year-on-year increase of 4.2 percent, 23 percentage points lower than expected, according to information released at a press conference by the Chengdu Provincial Government.
By June 27, 3,415 above-scale industries, among 3,479 in Chengdu, had resumed operations and the production capacity had reached 101.4 percent compared with the period prior the earthquake. Above-scale industry refers to state-owned and non-state owned enterprises with a sales revenue above 5 million Yuan.
Fifty-eight large, major enterprises and groups have resumed production. Among 150 major industrial projects, 112 had been under construction before the earthquake. Among the 112 under construction, 98.2 percent have resumed since.
