Fortune Magazine recently released the 2008 top 500 companies in the world, among which are listed 19 state-owned companies under China's central government, according to the Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council on July 10.
A total of 35 Chinese enterprises are on the list, including 26 from the mainland, 3 from Hongkong and 6 from Taiwan. With annual sales reaching $159.26 billion, Sinopec led the Chinese group at 16th place, only second to Japan's Toyota in Asia.
On the list, State Grid ranks 24th, China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) 25th, and China Mobile 148th. With an annual revenue of $14.529 billion last year, CNPC has become the most profitable company in China.
