According to a Xinhua Net report, figures released on July 30 showed that the online gaming industry in Shanghai surged in growth with an annual revenue of 6 billion.

Li Xinli, vice director of the Shanghai News and Press Bureau, said that at present, there are over 50 online gaming companies in Shanghai, including Shanda, The9, and other well-known Internet companies. Over 70 games are currently in development or on the market, and many are being exported successfully. Several games have already been exported to the United States, Vietnam, Indonesia, and other markets. According to statistics, in 2007 the online gaming industry in Shanghai took in 6.37 billion RMB in revenue, a jump of 63% from the previous year.
