Bilateral and multi-lateral trade agreements can be a solution to maximizing trade benefits without compromising market competition in home markets of countries involved. For China, that prospect can be built on its Anti-Monopoly Law, effective August 1.

Prof. Huang Yong from Beijing-based University of International Business and Economics gave those remarks in a recent interview with People's Daily Online about trade-related issues in China's Anti-Monopoly Law, effective August 1. Huang is a member of the expert team for the legislation of that law. He was also engaged in the legislation of the Foreign Trade Law.

In his research on the relationship between trade policy and competition policy, he found that policies encouraging exports in some countries had been challenged by import countries taking legal action on the basis of their anti-trust regulations.
