Statistics released by State Administration of Foreign Exchange shows China's foreign debts balance reached 427.4 billion US dollars (excluding Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan Province) by the end of June, 2008, 14.4% more than that of the end of 2007.
Mid and long-term debts stood at 162 billion US dollars, or 37.92% of the foreign debts balance. 62.08% or 265.4 billion US dollars were short term debts.
Of the registered foreign debts of 278.8 billion US dollars, sovereignty debts borrowed by ministries accounted for 12.57% ; debt of Chinese financial institutions were 37.8%; debts of foreign-invested enterprises accounted for 31.04%; debt of financial institutions home and abroad took up 16.81%; Chinese enterprises' debt balance were 1.66%, and other institutions' debt accounted for 0.12%.
