Hong Kong's Chief Executive Donald Tsang said Wednesday that the city should remain prudent and rational in face of the global financial crisis.

Tsang held a press conference on Wednesday after delivering the2008-09 Policy Address at the Legislative Council earlier in the morning.

Speaking at the press conference, Tsang said that the worst situation of the world financial tsunami may not yet emerge and Hong Kong should stay prudent, pragmatic and rational when handling the turmoil.

The best approach to handle it, according to Tsang, is to set up a special committee to review and keep surveilling changes of the global market, so as to provide the government with appropriate suggestions.

"This is a time for consolidation and very careful and objective assessment of the situation, devising the best counter strategy, and at the same time exploiting opportunities to strengthen Hong Kong's position as an international financial center," he said.

Tsang believed that due to the solid financial monetary foundation in Hong Kong, which has got one of the best regulatory system in the world, the city will be able to cope with the financial crisis.
