Xidian University signed a contract with the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone on October 27 to begin construction of the first cartoon and animation industrial park in Xinjiang.
The project, titled "Popular Science Cartoon and Animation Experience Center", has a total investment of 91.5 million yuan, with investment in fixed assets of 71.5 million yuan. The construction will include the Xidian University's Xinjiang Science and Technology Park cartoon and animation factory, an IT training base, and a Xidian-Hewlett Packard TOP-50 color factory. After completion, the project's annual projected revenue will reach 126 million yuan.
Zhang Feng, General Manager of Xidian University's Xinjiang Science and Technology Park, explains that the Experience Center will feature cartoons and animations created through an industrial chain which includes creative design, picture processing and output, research and development, enterprise incubators and enterprise cooperation. This will form a new type of science and technology theme park that integrates science and technology with industry, education and culture.
The Xinjiang Science and Technology Park of Xidian University was jointly founded by Xidian University and the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone. It occupies an area of 82 mu.
