China made public its first mid- and long-term plan on grain security here on Thursday.

According to the plan, the country aims to increase grain output to 500 billion kg in 2010 and 540 billion kg in 2020.

Unremitting efforts should be made to ensure a minimum of 105 million hectares of sown area and 95 percent self-sufficiency in grain over the next 12 years, said the plan.
