Hong Kong Exchange Fund's foreign assets amounted to 1.136 trillion HK dollars (146.73 billion U.S. dollars) in October, down 58.7 billion HK dollars from September, Hong Kong Monetary Authority said on Friday.

The monetary base, comprising certificates of indebtedness, government-issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the aggregate balance of the banking system and Exchange Fund bills and notes issued, amounted to 362.8 billion HK dollars.

Claims on the private sector amounted to 82.2 billion HK dollars. Foreign liabilities, representing mainly obligations under repurchase agreements, amounted to 1.7 billion HK dollars, the authority said.
