Chinese equities dropped 2.35 percent in the morning trading on Tuesday, tracking losses on the regional markets and an overnight plunge on Wall Street.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, finished the morning session at 1,982.87 points, down 2.35 percent. The Shenzhen Component Index lost 3.21 percent to 6,565.13.
Losses outnumbered gains by 757 to 113 in Shanghai and 628 to 100 in Shenzhen at mid-day.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbled 2.63 percent to 8,273.58 points Monday night, as Citigroup's plan to cut more than50,000 jobs deepened economic concerns.
The Hang Seng Index fell 2.8 percent to 13,151.22 in the morning session on Tuesday.
The key Shanghai index climbed more than 2 percent on Monday, closing above 2,000 points.
