The network of inland roads for the third Eurasian Continental Bridge within Yunnan will be completed by 2015, said Qin Guangrong, deputy secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and governor of Yunnan on Monday.
Qin made these comments at the international academic seminar on the construction of the southwest corridor of the third Eurasian Continental Bridge held on November 24.
The third Eurasia Continental Bridge project is currently undergoing various comparison studies. It will start from coastal ports in Guangdong, with the Port of Shenzhen being the most important. It will go all the way through Kunming to Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Iran, and will enter Europe from Turkey. It will end at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The bridge will cross over 20 countries in Asia and Europe and have a total length of about 15,000 kilometers, which is 3,000 to 6,000 kilometers shorter than the sea route entering at the Indian Ocean from the southeast coast via the Malacca Strait. The total annual trade volume of the regions the route passes through is nearly US $300 billion.
