Chinese shares opened slightly lower on Monday despite a Wall Street rally last week.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index, which covers both A and B shares, slid 0.29 percent to 1,865.74 at the opening. The smaller Shenzhen index dipped 0.36 percent, to open at 6,634.60 points.

From Monday, Chinese investors will be allowed to buy shares on credit and sell borrowed stocks.
