Chinese shares close mixed on dive of peripheral markets

Chinese equities closed mixed, with the key index down slightly, on Tuesday as investors were worried about the plunge of Wall Street and peripheral markets.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed at 1,889.64 points, down 0.26 percent or 4.98 points. The smaller Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.47 percent, or 31.84 points, to close at 6,795.81.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 576 to 265 in Shanghai and by 594to 139in Shenzhen. Combined turnover was up to 103.68 billion yuan (15.1 billion U.S. dollars).

On Monday, the Dow Jones industrial average plummeted 7.7 percent with worries from the investors on economic situation. The Wall Street nosedive led to plunge in major Asian markets on Tuesday.
