China shares continue to fall Friday with investor confidence further dampened by heavy losses on peripheral markets.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 77.47 points, or 3.81 percent, to close at 1,954.21 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index slided 268.78 points, or 3.65 percent, to end at 7,092.71 points.

Combined turnover on the two bourses stood at 107.878 billion yuan (15.75 billion U.S. dollars), down from 127.783 billion yuan for the previous trading day.
