Total employment in the private sector of Hong Kong has increased by 2.2 percent, or 54,400 people, in September compared with a year earlier, official figures released here Friday indicated.
Meanwhile, the total number of vacancies was 47,760, representing a fall of 9 percent, or 4,550, over last year, says the Census and Statistics Department. Increases in employment were recorded in the financing and insurance sector, education services and research institutes, the medical, health and related-services sector, the communications sector and hotels and boarding houses.
Employment fell in the manufacturing sector, at construction sites and in wholesale trade.
