Reporter Chen Jinsong learned from the All China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) on December 24 that up till the end of September 2008, the number of the members of the All China Federation of Trade Unions had reached 212 million, accounting for 73% of the nation's total workers. Among them, 72.1 million members were migrant rural workers. Grassroots trade unions covered 3.682 million legal entities, creating a new record in history.
Local trade unions actively promote multinationals, including Fortune 500 companies, to set up trade unions in those companies. Their efforts have effectively promoted the overall development of the non-public enterprises' establishment of trade unions, leading to continuous increases in the number of corporate workers joining trade unions.
