The Hafei Saibao electric car development project, the National 863 Project from the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" undertaken by the Hafei Automobile Group, was recently completed after two years of scientific research and development. The technology for the Hafei Saibao electric cars has already achieved leading status in China, according to Heilongjiang Morning News.
Last year the electric car using lithium batteries, modeled after the original Hafei Saibao, successfully passed the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) NCAP 40% frontal offset crash test. This was China's first self-owned brand car to successfully pass the test, and was also the first electric car powered by full-loaded lithium batteries in the world to pass the test. At present, the Hafei Saibao electric car, which meets US customer and market requirements, has already begun the preparation for industrialization and will be mass-produced this year to sell in the US.
