On January 9, the National Bureau of Statistics of China released its national business climate index survey results on its website. The results show that in the fourth quarter of 2008, China's business climate index was 107.0, a decrease of 21.6 points compared to the third quarter.
The combined business climate index of the information transmission, computer service and software sectors and the index of the construction sector were 143.8 and 134.3 respectively, slightly dropping compared to the third quarter. The combine index of the wholesale and retail sectors, the index of the social services sector, the combine index of the hotel, food and beverage sectors and the index of the real estate sector were 127.2, 112.9, 111.3 and 101.7 respectively, falling by 16.4, 14.1, 7.7 and 17.2 points compared to the third quarter. The combined business climate index of industrial, transport and warehousing sectors and the postal service sector were 98.5 and 95.2 respectively, going down by 27.3 and 24.4 points compared to the third quarter.
The business climate indexes of state-owned enterprises, limited liability companies, stock limited companies, and foreign, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan-funded enterprises were 110.2, 105.2, 106.9 and 104.4 respectively, dropping 18.0, 22.1, 28.1 and 26.4 points compared to the third quarter. Collective-owned enterprises, joint stock cooperative enterprises and private enterprises respectively accounted a rate of 91.5, 94.4 and 98.7, with falls ranging from 11 to 23 points. Compared with the same period last year, the business climate indexes of various types of registered enterprises were noticeably lower.
The indexes of large, medium and small enterprises were 108.1, 105.4 and 99.5 respectively, descending by 35.4, 13.1 and 12.4 points. Compared to the same period last year, the decline of the large enterprises index exceeded 50 points, while falls in the indexes for medium and small enterprises ranged from 20 to 25 points.
The business climate indexes of enterprises in eastern, central and western China were 106.6, 109.9 and 105.8 respectively, all of which dropped by around 21 points compared to the third quarter.
The index of public listed companies was 106.2, decreasing by 39.4 compared to the third quarter, and by 62.7 points compared with the same period last year. The business climate indexes of key state-owned enterprises and pioneer state-owned enterprises were 88.9 and 91.7 respectively, with a drop by over 60 points to the third quarter and over 70 points compared to 2007.
