Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG)’s total spending was generally as much as that of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. This is according to results of current calculations, said Jiang Xiaoyu, Deputy-Director of the Committee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Executive Vice-President of the BOCOG.
“BOCOG did not lose money,” he said, it is certain to reach the revenue forecasted in the budget submitted during bidding for the Olympic Games. “At that time, we estimated revenue would be 1.625 billion USD. After deducting 1.609 billion USD of spending, the surplus was to reach 16 million USD. According to the results of preliminary calculations, the surplus will exceed the original target.”
Jiang said that these numbers will be audited. Afterwards, the National Audit Office of the People’s Republic of China will report to the State Council and the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, as well as release the results to the public.
