Recently, China UnionPay and Mashreq Bank, the largest private bank in the United Arab Emirates, jointly announced in Dubai the launch of the UnionPay card merchant acceptance business in the UAE. To date, the number of overseas countries and regions with UnionPay card merchant acceptance businesses has reached 53.
On April 20, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE, who is also emir of Dubai, met with the delegation of China UnionPay, headed by Xu Luode, President of China UnionPay. Retail outlets in the UAE that accept UnionPay cards are mainly spread out in areas that Chinese tourists often visit, including commercial centers, airports, and jewelry and food shops. China UnionPay will further expand the network of merchant acceptance businesses in the future according to the travel routes of Chinese tourists.
