A survey carried out by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security shows, currently the employment of migrant workers remains stable, but this does not mean we can sit back and relax, because there are still many uncertainties in the near future.
Wang Yadong, deputy director general of the Department of Employment Promotion in Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, said that the current global financial crisis has not yet bottomed out, and export processing enterprises are not yet rid of the impact of the crisis. If the financial crisis intensified, lots of migrant workers who now have a job are likely to lose it.
After July 2009, about seven million rural high school or junior middle school graduates will enter the labor market. According to past experience, most of them will be migrant workers. Employment of migrant workers will face new pressure.
In addition, under the conditions of economic slowdown, a considerable number of migrant workers lack skills and it is difficult for them to meet job requirements. Some migrant workers need urgent large-scale practical training.
"We should not be too optimistic about the employment situation of migrant workers, and need to put greater efforts to do everything possible for the promotion of employment."
Wang's suggestion to solve this problem:
First of all, government investment projects to promote the employment of migrant workers. It is necessary to let migrant workers have the priority to participate in major government investment projects and to encourage labor-intensive industries, especially small and medium-sized enterprises and the service industry to absorb as many migrant workers as possible.
Secondly, actively support the migrant workers return home to start their own business. More importantly, it is necessary to strengthen the training of migrant workers to improve their ability to cope with employment difficulties.
