Bangladesh government to simplify passport issuance |

The Bangladesh caretaker government is going to make easy the issuance and renewal of passport by simplifying the existing intricate rules and formalities, private news agency UNB reported Saturday.
Extending validity period of passport to 10 years from the currently 5 years and passport processing under private sector arealso under consideration.
A regular weekly meeting of the council of advisors on Saturdaydiscussed measures and directed the Home Ministry to place a complete proposal before the council.
Under the changes, the existing rules and formalities regardingissuance and renewal of passport would be done through a review ofthe passport forms, attestation, fee and other related matters.
The meeting also asked for examining whether the validity of passport could be extended to 10 years from the currently 5 years and whether the responsibility of issuance, addition and renewal of passport given to any established bank, private organization orassociation.
In a holistic approach to the long-running nagging problem involved in getting a passport, the caretaker cabinet also asked for ensuring delivery of urgent passport in due time.
At present, nearly 100,000 passports are being issued and renewed per month from 15 offices in the country and from 57 missions abroad, according to an official release.
