Officials began on Sundaycounting the ballots of Saturday's parliamentary election in Timor-Leste, spokesman of electoral commission (CNE) Martinho Gusmao said in Dili.
As all the ballot boxes have already arrived in the capitals ofall 13 districts, the tabulation was carried out at the counter centers in each district, said Gusmao.
"Now, the counting has been carrying out," Gusmao said.
The spokesman said that after the completion of the initial counting at the district level, the result would be handed to the capital of Dili for the national tabulation to produce the final result of the election.
"It takes four to five days to complete the counting at the district level," he said.
The electoral commission has changed a procedure of counting, ballots are not counted in each polling station, but directly brought to the polling centers in the capitals of districts and counted there, Gusmao has said.
All complaints in the polling stations can be submitted before the transport of the ballot boxes to the capitals of districts, hesaid.
Over 500,000 voters cast their votes at 705 polling stations across the country to chose 65 seats for the parliament from 14 competing political parties.
