Israel and Egypt agreed to open a joint border crossing to let 4000 Palestinians, stuck on Gaza- Egypt borders since June 14 to cross into the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, Palestinian sources said Tuesday.

The sources said that the agreement between the two countries was reached after the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) urged both of them to solve the problem, warning of a humanitarian disaster if borders are kept closed.

The sources confirmed that since June 14, 4000 Palestinians, who left the Gaza Strip via Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt for medical treatments or visits, are not able to cross due to the crossing's closure.

Israel decided to close down Rafah border crossing, while a European Union team of observers also left the crossing after Hamas armed wing al-Qassam Brigades and its security forces took control of security in the Gaza Strip.

Israel rejected the idea of reopening Rafah Crossing, claiming that it doesn't want to coordinate with Hamas movement, and had insisted to open an alternative crossing on its borders with Egypt called Kerem Shalom Crossing.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said the Palestinians who have been stranded at the Egyptian side of the crossing for about three weeks "are victims of war."
