Palestinian security sources said that the Israeli army on Tuesday took away at least 16 Palestinians, most of them are affiliated with Hamas, from the West Bank.

Hamas movement in Gaza condemned the arrests of its members in the West Bank, saying it coincides with the massive arrests of Hamas leaders by Palestinian security forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas, who is also head of Fatah movement.

However, the Palestinian security sources denied the accusation by saying that members of Fatah movement and Islamic Jihad (Holy War) were also among the detained taken away by the Israeli army after raids on several West Bank towns and villages.

Meanwhile, Israeli Radio reported that Palestinian militants opened fire at two Israeli army patrols early on Tuesday near the northern West Bank towns of Jenin and Tulkarem.

No injuries were reported and no one claimed responsibility, said the radio, adding that an Israeli army force stormed the village of Ya'bad near Jenin and detained three Palestinian suspects.
