Syria sends memos to UN on worsening health of Syrian captive in Israeli jail |

The Syrian Foreign Ministry sent on Tuesday official memos to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and other UN institutions explaining the deteriorating health condition of Syrian captive Bishr al-Maqt in the Israeli prison of Jalbou, the official SANA news agency reported.
The memos, also sent to chairperson of the UN General Assembly, chairman and members of the Security Council and the Human Rights Higher Committee, demanding an immediate intervention by UN officials in order to force Israel to provide medical care and specialists to examine Maqt, a citizen from the occupied Golan Heights.
The memos also call for Maqt's release, along with other Syrian inmates whose periods of detention have exceeded 22 years of hard and inhuman circumstances.
The memos said that in a similar case earlier, the Israeli cruel and arbitrary detention of Syrian captive Hayiel Abu-Zaid had led to his death in 2005.
The memos called on the international community to take necessary measures to force Israel to respect the Geneva agreement on the treatment of prisoners of war.
