Cote d'Ivoire's Prime Minister Guillaume Soro has called for an end to the ongoing debate on who was responsible for the rocket attack against his plane, which occurred Friday morning in Bouake, stronghold of the former rebel group New Forces (FN), the local press reported Tuesday.
"Let us not blame anyone and may we put an end to the ongoing debate in the media," the prime minister said Monday at his Bouakeresidence while addressing an armed forces delegation led by army chief of staff General Philippe Mangou, which called on him to offer "support and comfort."
Speaking on national television, Issiaka Ouattara, FN deputy chief of staff, had said the United Nations Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (ONUCI) was "to blame" for the attack, owing to the fact that UN forces are responsible for the security of Bouake airport where the incident occurred.
"The UN is not responsible for the security of any airport in Cote d'Ivoire," General Fernand Amousou, ONUCI forces commander, hit back in a radio interview.
"No one has the right to accuse anybody on this matter. It's myattack, let us leave my attack alone," the prime minister said.
A day after the attack, which left four people dead and about 10 more injured, arrests were made in connection with the matter. Speaking Sunday on the attack for the first time, Soro called for an international inquest in order to unravel the matter.
"We should let the experts deal with the matter. The international investigations will let us know the truth," the prime minister said.
