Initial investigations into Monday's bombing of Spanish tourists in Yemen indicate that al Qaida was the author of the attack, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said Tuesday.
Moratinos said the information was provided by his Yemeni counterpart Abu Bakr Abduallah al Quirbi, who said al Qaida's goal was to damage Yemen's tourist industry.
Moratinos said that Yemen had given Spain's Scientific Police the authority to conduct their own investigation parallel to that of the Yemen government.
The Yemeni foreign minister also told Moratinos by phone that Yemen security forces will "ceaselessly pursue the individuals who are behind this criminal, terrorist act and bring them to justice."
Meanwhile, Spain's travel agencies have cancelled their upcoming package tours to Yemen.
Each year some 400 to 450 Spanish tourists travel to Yemen, typically touring the nation in four-by-four vehicles.
Seven Spanish tourists died and six were injured in Marib, around 190 km from Yemen's capital, Sanaa, when a suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives into the holidaymakers' off-road vehicle when it was leaving the town's famous Moon Temple.
On Tuesday, Spain sent a plane to Yemen to bring back the injured and the bodies of the dead.
