The Russian government will urge enterprises in the country to increase investment in Guatemala's energy sector so as to enhance economic cooperation between the two sides, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a press conference on Tuesday.
Putin, the first ever Russian president to visit Guatemala since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1945, said he and his Guatemalan counterpart Oscar Berger have agreed that the two sides should explore all possibilities of cooperation in the energy sector.
Many Russian enterprises now have their eyes on the bright prospects of investing in the energy sector of Guatemala, Putin said, adding that Russian investment in the energy sector has already seen a big increase all across Latin America. The two presidents also agreed to set up a working group to discuss bilateral cooperation in various fields including economy and trade, technology, energy, culture and education.
