Fretelin leads counting of parliament poll in Timor-Leste |

The ruling party Fretelin took a lead at counting of the legislative election in the fledgling tiny nation of Timor-Leste on Wednesday, followed by the new party of CNRT, the coalition of ASDT-PSD and PD, electoral commission (CNE) announced in Dili. Up to Wednesday afternoon it has been counted 91 percent of the total votes or 339,458, said spokesperson of the CNE Maria Angelina Gusmao.
Eleven out of 13 districts have already completed tabulation, but the capital of Dili and Bacau district have not completed yet, she said. Fretelin temporarily leads the counting, said Angelina. The spokesperson said that Fretelin led by former prime minister Mari Alkatiri obtained 109,897 of the total votes, the new party established by former president and guerilla fighter Xanana Gusmao the Congresso Nacional de Reconstrucao de Timor- Leste or CNRT got 87,469 votes. She went on that the Associacao Social Democrata Timorense/ Partido Social Democrata alliance or ASDT-PSD led by Franciso Xavier do Amaral a charismatic leader who proclaimed the country over thirty years ago got 60,616 votes and the Partido Democratico or PD led by Fernando Lasama de Araujo, the most popular young leader in Timor-Leste got 44,888 votes.
