An American soldier was killed Wednesday during combat operations in southern Baghdad, the U.S. military said.
The soldier's unit continues conducting combined clearing operations with Iraqi security forces in part of the capital to promote Iraqi lead security operations, the military said in a brief statement.
The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.
More than 3,585 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the Iraq war broke out in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
