The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) reported on Wednesday that more people had been displaced in the western Sudanese region of Darfur due to unstable security situation.
In north Darfur, continuous insecurity in eastern Jebel Marra has forced 2,700 new internally-displaced persons (IDPs) to flee to El Fasher during June 2007, the UNMIS said in a statement.
No food distribution was carried out in northern Dar Zaghawa and Kutum in June, leaving 165,000 conflict-affected people without food aid, the statement added.
In South Darfur, insecurity continues to cause the displacement of thousands of IDPs to Al Salam refugee camp, which had a population of 13,300 in March, and now houses over 33,000 IDPs with other 2,300 still to be verified.
Meanwhile, a large number of refugees were moving from the neighboring Chad and the Central African Republic to west Darfur.
On June 26, a fighting erupted in the areas south of Tawilla, north Darfur State, between forces of the Sudanese government and militants of the rebel movements which had refused to sign a peace agreement with the government.
The UNMIS noted that carjacking, attacks and theft targeting humanitarian workers also continued in the region.
