The Indian Ocean island country of Mauritius is forging new strategic partnership with the developing world, Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam told Xinhua in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.
"Renewed vigor is being added to our relations with countries like China, India, Pakistan etc., especially with our efforts to carry on negotiations on a new generation of economic and trade partnership agreements with these countries," the prime minister explained.
Mauritius was participating fully in furthering the development agenda of Africa, he said, adding that his government was accelerating cooperation within its immediate neighborhood at the Indian Ocean region.
Ramgoolam said economic diplomacy was high on the foreign policy agenda of his government.
The prime minister added that as new economic power houses develop in the east, notably China and India, it was inevitable that Mauritian economic diplomacy in that part of the world would evolve and Mauritius had always had extremely good relations with both China and India.
Ramgoolam will pay an official visit to Beijing from July 9 to 14, it was officially announced.
He said Mauritius would also want to enhance cooperation with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries.
