Central African Republic (CAR)'s authorities have announced the United Nations (UN) is currently reviewing modalities pertaining to the deployment of a multi-dimensional force in the northeastern region of the country, to counter armed groups, bandits, and "highway robbers," according to news Wednesday from Bangui.
The possibility of sending an UN-sponsored force has often been suggested by humanitarian organizations working in the region, who have also been victims of attacks by these bandits.
The killing of a French aid worker on June 11 reinforced this hypothesis being considered by the UN.
Central African Republic has expressed its willingness to host this force which will extend its operations in eastern Chad.
The northern part of Central African Republic has been experiencing sporadic armed conflicts in the last four years between rebels and government forces.
