The South Korean government will deliver 6,200 tons of heavy fuel oil to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) next week as implementation of a joint agreement reached in the six-party talks, South Korean Vice Unification Minister Shin Un-ang said Thursday.
"South Korea will ship 6,200 tons of heavy fuel oil to the North (DPRK) next week as the North moves to shut down its nuclear reactor," Shin said, adding that the first delivery of the shipment will be sent before July 14. The announcement came after DPRK clearly promised last week its willing to shutdown its nuclear facilities in Yongbyon under the agreement adopted on Feb. 13 during the latest six-party talks on the nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula. The South Korean government has repeatedly promised to deliver a total of 50,000 tons of heavy oils to DPRK if DPRK acts to denuclearization. South Korean and DPRK officials agreed at a working-level meeting last week that South Korea will begin to transport the 50,000 tons of heavy oil within two weeks.
