The Pakistani security forces initiated an attack on hard-line Lal Masjid personnel after they failed to surrender before the deadline, he private Geo TV channel reported.

The administration set the deadline at 12:30 for students in the mosque to surrender.

Explosions were heard in the neighborhood as the religious personnel of hard-line Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque, entered into a fresh firing with security personnel in Pakistani capital Thursday.
Live TV reporting shows that several helicopters are hovering around the area.

Over 1,000 male students and 400 girls of the mosque surrendered to the authorities, Geo quoted Pakistani officials as saying.
