Indonesian president meets U.S. congressmen |

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met with four U.S. lawmakers in Jakarta Thursday and talked with them about the joint committee between Indonesia and Timor- Leste.
Susilo briefed the four visitors -- Donald Payne (Democrat), David Drier, Wayne Gilchrest and Jeff Miller (Republic) -- about the latest developments of the work of the Indonesia-Timor-Leste Committee for Truth and Friendship.
"They appreciate the president's initiative in the establishment of the committee and expressed their hope that the committee would continue with their good work," presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal told reporters at the presidential office.
Timor-Leste got rid of the 24-year Jakarta rule after a UN- sponsored referendum in 1999 and officially declared independence in 2002.
The committee will end duties next month but the two countries have earlier agreed to extend its life by six months.
The U.S. government has accused the Indonesian military of human rights abuses before, during and after the referendum and froze military ties with Indonesia.
But Washington restored the military ties with Indonesia in 2005 and resumed the export of weapons.
