Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit and his Jordanian counterpart Abdul Ilah Khatib are likely to visit Israel soon, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

Egypt, Jordan and Israel are working together on arrangements for the expected visit of the two Arab foreign ministers to the Jewish state, said an Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement obtained by Xinhua.

The visit, which is in continuation of Arab efforts to revive an Arab Peace Initiative, is planned to follow on the heels of a two-day visit of Abul Gheit to Washington starting on July 9, said the statement.

The Arab Peace Initiative, which was first approved in 2002 and reactivated during the Arab summit in Riyadh late March, offers to extend recognition to Israel by all Arab countries provided that it withdraws from all Arab territories it occupied in the 1967 six- day war, including East Jerusalem.

Israel has not rejected the idea, but has expressed reservations about a complete withdrawal and return of Palestinian refugees to Israel.
