British Prime Minister Gordon Brown telephoned Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Thursday morning and exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral relations, war against terrorism and other issues of common interest, the Foreign Ministry said.

Musharraf congratulated Brown on assuming the premiership of the United Kingdom and hoped that relations between the two countries will further improve in different fields under his leadership, said a statement issued by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.

The British prime minister appreciated Pakistan's cooperation in the war against terrorism, it said.

Brown said that the international community sees Pakistan as an important Muslim country with a vital role in international affairs, the statement said.
