The Vietnamese government affirms its firm stance on the "one-China" policy, local newspaper Vietnam News on Friday quoted a Vietnamese spokesman as saying.

Vietnam supports the reunification cause of China and opposes any "separatist act" for an independent Taiwan in any form, Le Dung, spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, said as answering questions on Vietnam's reaction to the Taiwanese authorities' promotion of a referendum on the island's UN membership.

"Vietnam hails efforts which aim to promote the two sides of the straits' relations for peace and stability in accordance with the trend of peace and stability in the region," he said.
