A total of 1,221 people in Lal Masjid Mosque have come out and surrendered themselves to the Pakistani government, the private Pakistani DAWN NEWS TV channel reported Friday.

Briefing a news conference, Home Secretary Sayed Kamal Shah said the government hoped Maulana Abdul Rashid, deputy chief of Lal Masjid could let the women in the mosque come out, DAWN NEWS reported.

Shah pledged that the government will treat the people who have surrendered well and no one will be insulted, according to the TV reports.

Shah also said that Rashid could save the lives of many people, especially children.

The Pakistani government asked Rashid to come out of the mosque and surrender, assuring him that his sick mother will be taken good care of and respected, according to DAWN NEWS.
