The Angolan government is committed to improving the image of the country's cities, a high-ranking official said here on Friday. The government is now working out relevant regulations on defining good reputation cities and how to improve the image of the cities, said Carla Leitao Ribeiro de Sousa, vice minister of urbanization and environment, on the national seminar on urban steering plans. "The steering plan," she said, "is a guiding norm that contributes to responding to matters regarding the satisfying of basic conditions of citizens as well as the economic and territory development of the country."
She added that the governments at the provincial level should have their own guiding and legislative manuals that include territory ordering, land and environmental laws. A 27-year civil war in Angola ending in 2002 and leaving 1 million people dead and 4 million others displaced has caused serious damage to infrastructure to many cities in the country. Source: Xinhua
