Brazilian prosecutor seeks to cancel Live Earth concert in Rio |

A Brazilian prosecutor on Friday appealed against a court ruling to allow the worldwide Live Earth concert to go ahead Saturday, saying police had failed to present a plan to guarantee the audience's safety.
It was the second time that prosecutor Denise Tarin had tried to stop the free concert which is expected to draw 700,000 people to the Copacabana Beach.
She had earlier persuaded a judge to halt the event amid claims that police numbers were insufficient because of the large amount of officers tied up in an anti-gang crackdown ahead of the Pan American Games.
But on Thursday, the judge reversed that decision after hearing from organizers of the Live Earth event, which aims to raise awareness of how human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, are affecting the climate. The judge was convinced there would be adequate security.
Inspired and backed by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, Live Earth concerts are also scheduled for Britain's London, Japan's Tokyo, South Africa's Johannesburg, China's Shanghai, Australia's Sydney, Germany's Hamburg, and East Rutherford, New Jersey. A band of scientists also will perform in Antarctica.
If the show takes place in Rio, there will be Live Earth music events on all seven continents.
