The abducted Bangladeshi project officer of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), a donor agency, was rescued Sunday morning by Army-led joint forces of Bangladesh, 14 days after he was kidnapped in the country's southeastern hill district.

Army sources said, they rescued Hossain Shahid Sumon, the DANIDA project officer, at about 10 a.m. local time on Sunday morning in southeastern hill area as the abductors abandoned their quarry and fled away to the hills following the massive operation by the joint forces.

A helicopter has been sent to the rescue spot to bring Sumon to the district headquarters, the private news agency UNB reported

The joint forces cordoned off the entire area and continued their hunt for the kidnappers.

Sumon and his driver were kidnapped on June 25 by masked gunmen in Bangladesh's southeastern Bandarban hill district. The driver was rescued by the joint forces on June 28.
