Turkey has sent aid to a northern Iraqi town where more than 150 people were killed by a suicide attack one day ago, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Sunday.
Contacts are underway to send more doctors and medicine to the village of Amerli near the town of Tuz-Khurmato in northern Iraq, Anatolia quoted Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul as saying on Sunday.
More than 150 civilians were killed and some 255 others wounded when a truck loaded with large amount of explosives detonated at acrowded outdoor market there on Saturday morning.
Gul noted that two medical planes had been sent to Iraq to bring wounded people to Turkey for treatment, adding that the planes were expected to land in Ankara's Etimesgut Military Airport on Sunday evening.
"We want to send extra medical planes to the region if asked," Gul said.
He added that Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC) Chairman Sadettin Ergec called him on Sunday and thanked him over the phone for Turkey's support and assistance after the suicide attack.
