Israel's Livni meets Palestinian PM

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on Sunday met with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in Jerusalem, discuss ways to improve the lives of the Palestinians while preserving Israel's security interests, local media said.

It was their first meeting since Fayyad became prime minister. The two also discussed situation in the Palestinian territories, as well as ways in which the Arab world could play a role in the political process.

Livni said after the meeting that she was impressed with the Palestinian government's and Fayyad's personal "resolve to change the reality," adding that she had the feeling that Fayyad is serious and ready to take action.

Fayyad is also functioning as Palestinian Foreign Minister. Last week, he met with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
