Palestinian factions Monday renewed rejection to bring people, stranded in Egypt, to Gaza Strip through an Israeli-run crossing, slamming the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) for accepting the proposal. "We affirm that we reject to open Kerem Shalom crossing instead of Rafah terminal," Hamas said in a statement released to the media. "The PNA leadership tries to take advantage of the people's suffering to achieve political goals," Hamas said.
The Islamic Jihad (Holy War) movement also said that they would view the opening of Kerem Shalom crossing as a symbol of occupation by Israel. The Islamic Jihad said the acceptance was a "contribution to support the plans of the Israeli occupation."
Some 6,000 Palestinians have been stuck in Egypt in hard circumstances since Israel sealed off all the crossing points including the Palestinian-Egyptian Rafah terminal after Hamas took control of Gaza Strip on June 14. The emergency government, which President Mahmoud Abbas formed after sacking Hamas coalition, expressed acceptance to open the Israeli crossing and allowed the stranded people into Gaza for once.
