Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday expressed support to the efforts by the Arab League (AL) to achieve compatibility among the Lebanese parties to form a government of national unity, the official SANA news agency reported. Assad made the remarks when meeting with visiting AL chief Amr Moussa in which the two sides discussed the current situation in the region, particularly the political crisis in Lebanon. Moussa briefed Assad on the results of his recent visit to Beirut and ways to resume mediation efforts to find a compromise formula for settlement between rival Lebanese parties. The two sides also reviewed the situation and the serious challenges in the Palestinian territories, agreeing on the need to resume dialogue among Palestinian ranks to achieve national reconciliation. Moussa arrived here Sunday evening for a two-day visit after a trip to Saudi Arabia.
