The number of Palestinian refugees seeking asylum in Norway has doubled, compared with the same time last year, said reports on Monday.

According to the Norwegian Immigration Directorate (UDI), 108 Palestinians have applied for asylum in Norway in the first five months of this year. In the same period last year, the number was 46.

"The increase is probably due to the conflict between Hamas and Fatah, the deteriorating economy and in general poor security conditions," said UDI director Sigrun Storsaeter.
